Abstract

This study presents an algorithm of particle swarm optimization with an aging leader and challengers (ALC-PSO) for solution of optimal power flow (OPF) problem. The algorithm determines the optimal settings of control variables to solve the OPF problem. The proposed algorithm is tested on the standard 26-bus test power system with three different objectives as (i) fuel cost minimization, (ii) active power loss minimization and (iii) sum of total voltage deviation minimization. Results obtained by ALC-PSO are compared to other optimization techniques conferred in the past state-of-the-art literature. The results confirm the superiority of ALC-PSO algorithm over other techniques regarding convergence profile and global search ability.
