Multicasting implies data sharing among a number of users. These users may be in different locations, so the data is to be transmitted through the network. As the data is shared in a network, security is the main concern. Security of data can be achieved using Blowfish algorithm which is a symmetric encryption mechanism. The sender encrypts the file with a key and this encrypted file is shared among the group members. As the receivers should also use the same key for decryption, the key sharing is also a trivial task. Here the key is generated based on an equation and this equation is known to all members of the group. The equation contains three variables and the sender generates three random numbers to be substituted to these variables. These numbers are communicated to the members of the group. All the group members as well as the sender calculate the key based on the equation. So the key as such need not be transmitted through the vulnerable network. The receivers can make use of this key for decrypting the file with the help of Blowfish algorithm. Class D addressing in classful addressing mechanism of IPv4 helps to implement multicasting operation.
